antiX Linux
Pros
- antiX Linux is fast and lightweight like Puppy Linux.
- antiX Linux is user-friendly like Puppy Linux.
- Like Puppy Linux, antiX Linux installs in just a few minutes. The installation procedure is actually easier than that for Puppy Linux.
- antiX Linux is compatible with the Debian software repository, which is one of the very largest (over 25,000 programs). This is important if you need specialized applications Puppy Linux has only a few hundred programs in its repository. (Debian repository compatibility is in the works for Puppy Linux.)
- Bottom line: antiX Linux offers the advantages of Puppy Linux (lightweight and user-friendly) AND the large software repository of Debian. antiX Linux is the most lightweight Linux distro that is user-friendly and has a repository with over 20,000 programs.
Cons
- The main menu on the desktop isn't well organized, and it can be difficult to find your application. In this respect, antiX Linux needs to be more like Puppy Linux.
SPECIAL NOTE
Certain old CD drives may have difficulty booting up antiX Linux on a CD-RW disc. On my two old desktop computers (built in 2000 and 2001), I had to burn antiX Linux to a CD-R disc in order to boot up. For some reason, these computers had difficulty with antiX Linux on a CD-RW even though they had no difficulty booting up Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, or Ubuntu on a CD-RW.
